After all of our sight-seeing adventure's in Washington, DC, we needed a break.  So, on the 27th we headed south, stopping for one night in Four Oaks, NC then on to Joint Base Charleston, SC.  We're now at the Foster Creek RV Park and Villas on the Naval Weapons Station.

The drive down from DC was relatively easy with just a little wind from the outer bands of Hurricane Sandy.  We had just a few sprinkles of rain but nothing to write home about.

Yesterday we took a tour of Fort Moultrie National Monument which is part of the Fort Sumter National Monument.  We had planned to take a ferry out to Fort Sumter but at $17 a person we decided not to do that.

On advice from a waiter where we had lunch, we took at carriage ride through the old residential streets of old Charleston.  Our tour guide was very knowledgeable about the area and gave us quite the history lesson.

Last night we had supper with J. B. and Gale Rickert at their beautiful home in Summerville.  J. B. and Gale are both retired Air Force C-141 flight engineers.  Gale served with the 7th MAS/ALS at Travis AFB during the same time I was there.  J. B. fixed a great beef stroganoff dinner that was delicious.  We spent the rest of the evening catching up on the years past.

We left Charleston about 8:30 AM and headed south to St. Augustine where we plan to spend the winter.  The drive down was fairly easy until we got to the Jacksonville area where the traffic got a little heavy.

We're staying at the Ocean Grove RV Resort in St. Augustine Beach for a couple of days until we can get into our hosting site at Anastasia State Park.  This is a Passport America park and even with our 50% discount we still paid $36 dollars a night.  Ain't nutt'in cheap about Florida!

It was good to see Harold, Michelle, Abigail and Skyer again.  Abigail has really grown in the past year and little Skyler is walking now.

Yesterday we went over to Harold and Michelle's house for the Halloween festivities.  After the neighborhood block party we all walked around with the little ones while they trick-or-treated.
Today we will be moving up the road to our hosting site at Anastasia State Park.  Our parking site is not actually in the park but next to the Amphitheater.  We'll have a few days off before our orientation on Monday.

We have been on the road now for three months and have covered a lot of ground since leaving Smith Rock State Park, OR.  During this trip we put 9135 miles on our truck, burned 703 gallons of diesel fuel and averaged 13.3 mpg.  The average price for diesel fuel was $3.99 a gallon.

We're are now at our parking site at the State Park where we will call home for the next four months.  We found out yesterday that we won't be getting our orientation until Monday so we have several days off to explore the area around St. Augustine.

Our parking site is not actually located in the camping areas of the park but at the park's offices and just a short walk to the Amphitheater where concerts are held.  The group Heart will be playing this weekend.  On Saturdays there is a farmer's market held here as well.

This morning we attended Abagail's soccer match, a first for Joyce and I.  She did really good, scoring one goal and blocking three shots from the other team.

Before going to the game, we shopped at the farmer's market.  There was several produce stands selling beautiful fruits and vegetables, a couple of venders with fresh bakery products and others selling their crafts.  One of the good things about being in Florida is the ability to get fresh produce all year long.

It's been a few days since I last wrote so I'll bring you up-to-date.

We got our orientation last Monday and have started work.  We will be taking care of Loop 1 which includes cleaning the camp sites when folks leave, general litter picking in the loop and cleaning the bathhouse.  We're required to put in twenty hours a week between the two of us but I think we'll probably have to do more than that during the holidays.  We're working a three day on/three day off schedule which gives us ample time to enjoy northern Florida and to spend time with the grand kids.

Yesterday we took Harold, Michelle and the kids up to Jacksonville for their trip to New York.  One of Harold's cousins is being married today out on Long Island and they have been planning to attend for a long time.  Hopefully there won't be any snag's with traveling from New York City where they are staying out to the Island.

After dropping them at the airport, we made a trip to Costco and then out to NAS Jacksonville where we made a Exchange and Commissary run.  While there we went to the Morale, Welfare and Recreation ticket office.  We got tickets for several attractions in the local area and also free 3-day/3-parks passes for Universal Studios in Orlando.
